Letters From A Bygone World - A Travel Memoir
My latest book is a true story based in 1956 about a young American couple who up sticks and travel the world. It's about being young, excitement and the passing of time.
This is the true story of a young American couple, who one day decides to quit their jobs, sell their house and car, and spend three-and-a-half months of their life, circling the globe. They travel by cargo-passenger ships, half a dozen foreign airlines, by trains, busses, rickshaw and motor scooter. The story is told by way of letters written home and mailed from wherever their next stop happens to be.
The voyage is full of unexpected events and situations, like the old soothsayer in India who approaches them with an incredible prediction, which gives them reason to remember him much later. The year is 1956. How this world of ours has changed in such a short time!
WHERE TO BUY THE BOOK
"Nick Klepper's memoir, Letters From Another World, is a time capsule in words. It offers a treasure of unforgettable experiences, which carry readers literally around the world, during the period following WWII. They convey a taste of the local culture, the generosity of its people, and the many exceptions to government policies or cultural stereotypes. There are many ways to record, and thus preserve, human history: the artifacts and art that archaeologists will later discover; the masterpieces of literature that critics canonize; the architecture whose ruins may still inspire; the history books that record and reinterpret the past. But this beautifully written memoir offers one of the most personal, vivid and engaging records of a past that should not be forgotten."

"I was thoroughly charmed by this voyage down memory lane. Narrated by way of letters home, the traveling young couple shares their thoughtful impressions and exciting adventures, which come to life page after page. A real treat!!"

“This book is unlike anything I have ever read before. First, I felt like I was reading someone's diary. It felt private and very personal. I think that is what will make this book unforgettable to me. Second, since the letters all took place "before my time" I was fascinated by how much things had cost, how customs have changed, and all the differences from what the author was sharing to how things are now. I got so into the book, I found myself saying – ‘Oh Nick, that was expensive!’ and they had only spent $4. Lastly, they have been to so many places I had never been to, the book became partly a history lesson and a travel program. I envied their adventure. The memories and experiences they have had were worthy of writing and reading about; I can only imagine what it would have been like to actually live it! And what a gifted fortune teller in Agra! An amazing and fascinating voyage.”
